Three pathways to sustainable finance

Lloyd Kurtz will discuss the evolution of sustainable finance through three distinctive pathways:  exclusion, integration, and impact.  He’ll explain how each of these pathways developed, and how they now have converged to define modern practice.  He’ll also discuss some of the fiduciary and legal aspects of each approach, as well as historical investment performance.

Lloyd is a nationally recognized expert in sustainable investing including working on the first socially responsible index, the Domini Social Index in 1990.  This index now known as the MSCI KLD 400 index.

Lloyd joins us from Montecito Bank & Trust, where he serves as a Senior Portfolio Manager.  He joined MB&T in 2023 following a 19-year career in sustainable investment at Wells Fargo.  Lloyd is also a visiting scholar at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, and teaches a course in sustainable finance at the University of Muenster, Germany.
